O, what a noble mind is here o'erthrown! The courtier's, soldier's, scholar's, eye, tongue, sword; The expectancy and rose of the fair state, The glass of fashion and the mould of form, The observed of all observers, quite, quite down! And I, of ladies most deject and wretched, That suck'd the honey of his music vows, Now see that noble and most sovereign reason, Like sweet bells jangled, out of tune and harsh; That unmatch'd form and feature of blown youth Blasted with ecstasy: O, woe is me, To have seen what I have seen, see what I see!
This monologue is from Hamlet by William Shakespeare;
Monologue context
Ophelia talks about how much Hamlet has changed and how she despairs to see him now. Compare him to who he used to be before. This monologue happens in act 3, scene 1. Before this scene, at the end of act 2, hamlet has just devised a trap for Claudius, forcing the king to watch a play whose plot closely resembles the murder of Hamlet's father.

William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare was English playwright but also a poet and actor. He is known as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's greatest dramatist. He was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, and sadly pasted on the 23rd of April 1616 in the same place he was born.
William Shakespeare was seen as influential as he created new words and tropes, as well as building relationships between writers and patrons. We can see that he was influential as actors are still preforming his plays today and his works' symbolism, wordplay and characters inspire contemporary writers to push their creative boundaries.

'WHAT WE SEE IN THE THEATRE IS A REFELCTION OF THE SOCIETY IN WHICH WE LIVE'
My solo is from Hamlet that was written by William Shakespeare in 1602 and it follows the character Ophelia. In this monologue, "O, what a noble mind is here o'erthrown", She is talking about how she truly loves Hamlet and how she is grieving the loss of him along with his once great mind. This monologue shows themes of grief and sorrow along with frustration in the way that she is feeling and in her own emotions after the break-up that she has just been through. In this monologue, by the way that actors play her, it is seemed that she is barely keeping it together while she navigates the very public nature of the break- up with any small amount of dignity that she can muster. Although she seems to be filled with denial and rage over the break up she still keeps it together through grace and all the strength that she has left. This can be seen to be relevant in todays society as break-up still occur to this day and a lot of people that go through them also feel this same amount of need to seem put together and collected when inside they are broken and frustrated. As this monologue is showing general themes of sorrow and frustration that come from a break up, it is still relevant as people all around the world still experience breakups to this day and similar sorrows so they can find it easy to sympathise with her and how she is feeling as they may have experienced this themselves. So overall this solo shows that what we see in the theatre is a reflection of the society in which we live.
